Answer:

11. All of the planets in the solar system have moon with the exception of Mercury and Venus.

12. Because there is no atmosphere on the moon, any liquid water would have evaporated into space long ago.

13. The length of a planet’s day is determined by its speed of rotation.

14. The large, irregular objects mostly located between Mars and Jupiter are asteroids.

15. Icy objects that mostly travel in long, elliptical orbits around the sun are comets.

Explanation:

The solar system has 8 planets which revolve about sun in elliptical orbits.

All the planets other than Mercury and Venus have natural satellites revolving about them. Earth has 1 moon. Mars has two moons - Phobos and Deimos. Jovian planets have many moons.

Moons don't have atmosphere because of their low gravity due to which water would have evaporated even it would have been present.

The speed of rotation determines the duration of day on a planet. 1 day on Earth = 24 hours. 1 day on Mercury = 58.646 Earth days.

Asteroids are large irregular rocky bodies which orbit sun. Majority of these bodies lie in asteroid belt in between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

Comets are icy bodies found in Kuiper belt and Oort cloud. These travel around the sun in long elliptical orbit. Comets are composed rock, dust, ice and frozen gases.

Why does photosynthesis require water? a. because water provides oxygen atoms. b. because water provides electrons . c. because
katovenus [111]

Answer:

The correct answer would be b. because water provides electrons.

During the light reaction of the photosynthesis, the water is photolysed into high energy electrons, hydrogen ions, and oxygen.

The overall reaction can be written as:

2 H₂O + sunlight → 4 H⁺ + 4 e⁻ + O₂

It takes in water-splitting complex associated with photo-system II rooted in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplast.

The oxygen is released as the byproduct of photosynthesis.

The hydrogen ions help in the formation chemiosmotic potential across the thyllakoid membrane which help in the formation of ATP (adenosine triphosphate).

The electrons are used to replace the electrons lost from chlorophyll a of reaction centre associated with photo-system II. The electrons are lost due to the photo-excitation of chlorophyll a.

The electrons lost from chlorophyll a help in the production of ATP and are used to reduce NADP⁺ into NADPH.

The ATP and NADPH are used in light-independent reaction of the photosynthesis to produce glucose or food.
