Hey there!

The way that I always solved these problems is just plugging in the values into the given function in the answers. You could also graph these equations, too, and see if the points you've been given are on the graph. I see you're on a Mac, so you should have Grapher on there. Just make sure that if you're using Grapher, you set each equation to y instead of tₓ, since the program won't know what to do with the latter.

For your first problem, whichever function is equal to 17 when you input 1 (since it's the first number in the sequence) for n will be your answer.

5(1) + 16 = 5 + 16 = 21
5(1) + 12 = 5 + 12 = 17
–5(1) + 12 = –5 + 12 = 7
5(1) + 31 = 5 + 31 = 36

Your answer will be B, since it's the only function that contains the point (1, 17).

For your second problem, just do the same thing, except the function that's equal to 1 when you input 1 for n will be your answer this time.

–7(1) = –7
–7(1) – 6 = –7 – 6 = –13
–7(1) + 8 = –7 + 8 = 1
7(1) + 8 = 7 + 8 = 15

Your answer will be C, since the graph of the function contains the point (1, 1).

Hope this helped you out! :-)

The circumference of a circle varies directly as the diameter. A circle has a diameter of 40 feet and a circumference of 125.6 f
kirill115 [55]

Answer:

A. 31.4 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula for circumference is given by

C = pi d

Since we know the diameter is 10 ft

C = pi * 10

pi  is approximately  3.14

C = 3.14* 10

C = 31.4 ft

How do you find the volume inside the cylinder but outside the sphere? H=12cm.
Mrrafil [7]
Apparently, there is a sphere inside a cylinder, and we need to find
(the volume of the cylinder) minus (the volume of the sphere).

This wouldn't be too awfully difficult if we had the measurements we need
in order to calculate the volume of the cylinder and the volume of the sphere.
You did give us a number, thank you, but no description, so we don't even know
what's 12, because we don't know how 'H' figures into anything.

If you have the numbers, here are the formulas you'll need:

Volume of a cylinder = π (radius)² (height or length)

Volume of a sphere = (4/3) π (radius)³
===============================================
Oh I think I get it.  There's a little ball stuck inside a cylinder, they
both have the same radius, and the height of the cylinder is 12.

That's still not enough information to do a complete calculation.
I'm afraid we still need that radius.  But we can get closer:

Volume of the cylinder = π (radius)² (12)

Volume of the sphere = (4/3) π (radius)³

(Cylinder) minus (sphere) = (4/3) π (radius²) ( 9 - radius ) .

Stuff the number for the radius into that, and you'll have the answer.

And if you need it, remember, the radius is 1/2 of the diameter.

A construction worker is placing rivets in a new bridge. He uses 42 rivets to build the first 2 feet of the
Novosadov [1.4K]

Answer:

about 105 rivets to build 2200 ft of the bridge .

Step-by-step explanation:

first i found out how many rivets it took to build one ft of the bridge .

i divided 42 by 2 to get how many rivets it took to build one ft. i got (21)

21 rivets for 1 ft

next i divided 2200 ft by 21 rivets (2200÷21)= 104.76

104.76 rounded is 105
