5 of anything are always larger than 2 of the same thing. In this case, the 'thing' just happens to be eighths.

First, turn them into decimals by dividing them from eachother.

2/8 = .25
5/8 = .625

So, 5/8 would be larger then 2/8.
I hope this helps!

The human body is 72 percent water in average. About how much water will be in a person that weighs 138 pounds?
denis23 [38]
Simply get the value of 72 percent out of 138 pounds.

138 * 72% = 9926 / 100% = 99.36 lbs

We need to divide the answer by 100% if 72% is not converted into decimal to ensure that we get the exact value in pounds.

or

138 * 72%/100%  = 138  *  0.72  = 99.36 lbs

If in the event that 99.36 lbs and 72% is given, we can find the weight of the person by dividing the value by its corresponding percentage.

99.36lbs  / (72%/100%) = 99.36 / 0.72 = 138 lbs

If both values are given and percentage is missing, then divide the part by the whole to get the percentage.

99.36 lbs / 138 lbs = 0.72  * 100 % = 72%

During a blizzard it snowed 5 and 8/10in after a week the sun had melted 3 and 1/2 inches of snow how many inches of snow is lef
WITCHER [35]

2\frac{3}{10} inches of snow is left

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that,

From given,

Original\ amount\ of\ snow = 5\frac{8}{10}\ inches = \frac{10 \times 5 + 8}{10} = \frac{58}{10}\ inches

Sun\ melted = 3\frac{1}{2}\ inches = \frac{2 \times 3 + 1}{2} = \frac{7}{2}\ inches

<em><u>how many inches of snow is left</u></em>

Snow left = original amount of snow - sun melted

Snow\ left = \frac{58}{10} - \frac{7}{2}\\\\Snow\ left = \frac{58}{10} - \frac{7 \times 5}{2 \times 5}\\\\Snow\ left = \frac{58}{10} - \frac{35}{10}\\\\Snow\ left = \frac{58 - 35}{10}\\\\Snow\ left = \frac{23}{10}\\\\\In\ mixed\ fractions\\\\Snow\ left = 2\frac{3}{10}

Thus 2\frac{3}{10} inches of snow is left
