However, the Song was under heavy pressure from the Jin Dynasty to the north in the early 1100s. While it managed to resist the Jin, the Mongol invasion that first started in 1235 pushed back the Song further and further south, until it finally capitulated in the 1270s. The Mongol Yuan dynasty was founded on 1271, and ruled China until 1368.
