To calculate the molecular formula, convert the mass ratio into molar ratio as follows:

mass ratio of O:C=2:1

molar mass of carbon is 12 g/mol and that of oxygen is 16 g/mol thus, number of moles can be calculated as follows:

n=\frac{m}{M}

calculating ratio,

O:C=\frac{2 g}{16 g/mol}:\frac{1 g}{12 g/mol}=\frac{1}{8}:\frac{1}{12}=12:8=3:2

thus, molecular formula will be C_{2}O_{3}

What is the percentage by mass of the solution formed when 22.0 grams of HCL is dissolved in 90.0 grams of water
snow_lady [41]

Answer: 19.6%

Explanation: percent by mass =

100 × ((mass of solute (g)) ÷ (mass of solute + mass of solvent (g)))

100 × ((22.0gHCl) ÷ (22.0gHCl + 90.0gH20)) = 19.6%

You are given a solution of benzoic acid, anthracene, and ethyl 4-aminobenzoate in methylene chloride. If you perform an extract
kap26 [50]

Answer:

Benzoic acid, anthracene

Explanation:

If you have a compound with an aqueous layer and organic layer, they can be distinguished by adding distilled water. The aqueous layer increases in size.

Organic products are soluble in organic solvent (organic layer). Benzoic acid, anthracene are both acidic, therefore if you perform an extraction with acidic aqueous solution both would dissolve in the methylene chloride thereby remaining in the organic layer.
