Stalin wanted a "buffer zone" so USSR wouldn't get invaded by Germany again. It had previously been invaded twice in the past 30 years

Missionaries’ jobs were to spread their culture and lots of times, they just had the instruction to go a certain direction. For example, imagine someone just telling you go west. You wouldn’t have any idea what to do. With roads, this job would be easier.
