There are two main thoughts for me when it comes to economy. capitalism and socialism. They both have some upsides and some downsides. Capitalism makes people want to invent and has more economic expansive capabilities the downside is that a small amount of people own everything and their is rich and poor. Capitalism not everyone owns every thing and everything (recources) is distributed somewhat more evenly and nobody is poor downside everyone depends on the government and no one wants to invent.
