Marius changed the roman army by promising land to the poor men if they became soldiers.
Near the beginning of the 1st century BC BCE, Marius was given almost unlimited powers to reorganize the legions. He introduced a cohort of approximately 550 men to 600 men and had each legion have its battle standards. This gave the men a rallying point. He had the Roman javelins break after thrown, thus disabling them to be used against his own soldiers. He abolished the use of personal weapons to allow for poorer men to join the ranks. The legions would be the main source of weapons supply. He also had the army carry equipment in their own backpacks. This left the supply wagons with less materials to carry and placed important equipment at hand for each soldier.
Another aspect of the Marius changes was to increase the loyalty of the legions to their generals rather than to the Senate. Later of course Augustus would have the military swear an oath to him rather than the Roman State.

During his presidential campaign, Jimmy Carter asked Americans to vote for him MAINLY because he A) had more experience than his
vaieri [72.5K]

Answer:

The answer is option D.

Explanation: Jimmy Carter was elected as 39th president of America by defeating Gerald Ford. During the election campaign Jimmy Carter asked Americans to vote him because he could restore American's faith in their government after Watergate scandal which was the cause of resign of President Nixon. Carter presented himself as a reformer to the voter who could bring change. He also took advantage of presidential pardon of Nixon by president Ford. This incident helped him to draw the attention of the voter about the weakness of Ford.

So it can be said that restoring the faith to the government after Watergate scandal worked as a key factor for Carter in the campaign.

With a _______tax, the tax rate decreases as income increases.______ individuals bear a greater burden with this type of tax.
Murrr4er [49]
REGRESSIVE ... lower income

So the full sentence would read: With a regressive, the tax rate decreases as income increases. Lower income individuals bear a greater burden with this type of tax.

An example of a regressive tax would be a sales tax on everyday items. Lower income individuals must spent a higher percentage of their income on basic necessities, so sales taxes on necessary items takes from them a higher percentage of their income than is the case for wealthy individuals. If there are higher rates of tax on luxury items (like yachts or luxury cars) that are purchased only by higher-income people, that would not be regressive. But otherwise sales taxes affect a greater percentage of the poor's income than the rich.

Another example (and another consumption tax) would be taxes on gasoline. Think of two commuters who both drive 30 miles a day to get to work, in cars that get similar gas mileage. If one of those persons makes $100,000 a year, and the other person has a job that earns only $25,000 a year, the person earning $25,000 a year is paying the same amount in gas taxes as the person making $100,000 a year. That's a regressive tax.
[A detail to note: Americans on average across the country pay about 50 cents in taxes that is included in the price of each gallon of gas purchased.]
