<em>The answer is 3</em>

So, because there is an x^{2} in this equation, that means there will be two solutions for x. To find these solutions, let's solve for x:

5 - 8 - 2x + x^{2} = 0..................................Move all terms to one side

-2x + x^{2} -3 = 0.......................................Combine like terms (5 -8 = -3)

(x - 3) (x + 1)............................................Factor -2x + x^{2} -3 = 0

===================================================================
How to Factor:
-2x + x^{2} -3 = 0

Ask which two numbers add up to equal -2 and multiply to equal -3
(-3 and 1)

Not just put the in a parenthesis with an x in front: (x - 3) (x + 1)

To check this multiply the parenthesis together by using the FOIL method and you will end up with -2x + x^{2} -3 = 0 which is exactly what we started with.
===================================================================

Now that that is factored, all we do now is set each parenthesis to equal 0 and solve for x:

x - 3 = 0
<em>x = 3</em>

x + 1 =0
<em>x = -1</em>

Now our question asks us for the positive solution, which is 3.

Thank you for the question! I hope this helped!! Have an amazing day! :)

If a triangle has side lengths 5, 5, and 8, then the triangle should be classified as isosceles.

This is because an isosceles triangle has two sides of the same length and one side of a different length. This isn’t an equilateral triangle (where all sides are of equal length) or a scalene triangle (where all sides are of different lengths).

Hope this helps!

Carmela randomly selected 85 stamps from a stamp collection. Eleven of these were commemorative stamps.
uysha [10]

Answer:

(0.095, 0.165)

Step-by-step explanation:

Confidence interval :

Phat ± margin of error

Margin of Error = 0.035

Phat = x / n

Phat = 11 / 85 = 0.1294117

Hence,

Phat ± 0.035

Lower boundary = 0.1294117 - 0.035 = 0.0944

Upper boundary = 0.1294117 + 0.035 = 0.1644

(0.0944, 0.1644)

barxatty [35]
Answer: 16 miles

Explanation:
I believe it would be 16 miles, if he starts off at 6 miles on day one and goes up 1/2 mile every day, he would be up a mile every other day, basically on day 3 he would be at 7 and day 5 at 8 miles, if the pattern continues he would be at 16 miles by day 21.
