At 10:00 a.M., Han and Tyler both started running toward each other from opposite ends of a 10-mile path along a river. Han runs
ehidna [41]

Answer: 1. Han run 2.5 miles after a half hour.

2. No, they will not meet within 1 hour.

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, Han runs at a pace of 12 minutes per mile.

Or, we can say that he can run with the speed of 5 miles per hour. (because, speed = 1/pace and 12 minutes = 1 miles ⇒ 60 minutes = 5 miles)

Similarly, If Tyler runs at a pace of 15 minutes per mile ⇒ Tyler run with the speed of  4 miles per hour.

Therefore,

1) The distance covered by Han in half an hour = 1/2 × 5 = 2.5 miles

(because distance = speed × time)

Now, 2) the time at which Han and tyler will meet,

T= Total distance/ ( the sum of their speed)

T= \frac{10}{5+4} = \frac{10}{9}

⇒  T = 1\frac{1}{9} hours > 1 hour

That is, they will not meet within 1 hour.

I can read a 336-page book in 6 hours. Jayne can read a 144-page book in 3 hours. If I start reading a 5000-page book at noon an
dimulka [17.4K]

Answer:

12:00 am midnight

Step-by-step explanation:

Given;

I can read a 336-page book in 6 hours.

My rate r1 = 336/6 pages per hour = 56 pages per hour

Jayne can read a 144-page book in 3 hours.

Jayne rate r2 = 144/3 = 48 pages per hour

If I start reading a 5000-page book at noon and Jayne starts reading the same book at 10 AM

Taking 10 am as the reference time.

Let x represent the time from 10 am at which they would both be on the same page.

For me;

Since i started by noon; 2 hours after 10 am

Time t1 = x-2

For Jayne;

She started by 10 am

Time t2 = x

For them to be on the same page they must have read the same number of pages;

Number of pages read = rate × time

r1(t1) = r2(t2)

Substituting the values;

56(x-2) = 48(x)

56x - 112 = 48x

x(56-48) = 112

x = 112/(56-48)

x = 14 hours

Since 10 am is the reference, the time would be;

=10 am + x = 10 am + 14 hours

= 24:00

= 12:00 am midnight

Answer:

15.9

Step-by-step explanation:

Formula:

a² + b² = c²

6² + x² = 17²

36 + x² = 289

x² = 253

\sqrt{x^2} =\sqrt{253}

x = 15.91

Identify the amount, base, and percent in the problem: What is 60% of 485?
IrinaK [193]

Hey there! I'm happy to help!

The percent in the problem is 60% (as it has a percent time).

The base is the number we start with, so it is 485.

The amount is the percent of the base. As a decimal, 60% is 0.6. So, we just multiply this by 485.

0.6×485=291

Therefore, the amount is 291.

AMOUNT: 291

BASE: 485

PERCENT: 60%

Have a wonderful day! :D
