Both these expression are written in slope-intercept form. y = mx + b

m = slope

b = y-intercept

We can find the slope of each expression by finding what m is in each equation.

y = -3x + 2 -> m = -3

y = 4x - 5 -> m = 4

Remember that m = slope

A surveyor wants to find the height of a hill. He determines that the angle of elevation to the top of the hill is 50°. He then
kupik [55]

Answer:

The height of  the hill is 45 feet .

Step-by-step explanation:

Refer the attached figure

Let AB be the height of hill

We are given that He determines that the angle of elevation to the top of the hill is 50°

So, \angle ACB= 50^{\circ}

Now  He then walks 40  feet farther from the base from the hill and determines that the angle of elevation to the top of the hill is now 30°

So, CD=40 feet

BD=BC+CD=BC+40

\ADB= 30^{\circ}

In ΔACB

Tan \theta = \frac{Perpendicular}{Base}\\Tan 50^{\circ} =\frac{AB}{BC}\\1.1917 BC=AB ----1

In ΔADB

Tan \theta = \frac{Perpendicular}{Base}\\Tan 30^{\circ} =\frac{AB}{BD}\\\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}=\frac{AB}{BC+40}\\\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}(BC+40)=AB----2

So,equate 1 and 2

1.1917 BC=\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}(BC+40)\\BC=37.59

Substitute the value in equation 1

1.1917 (37.59)=AB

44.796=AB

Hence the height of  the hill is 45 feet .

Money in a savings account is compounded continuously over time, t, and is modeled by the function f(t)=1000e0.047t. what is the
likoan [24]

<u>Compounded</u><u> continuously the balance grows at a continuous rate of </u><u>1.7%.</u>

What is compound interest ?

  • Compound interest is when you earn interest on both the money you've saved and the interest you earn.
  • So let's say you invest $1,000 (your principal) and it earns 5 percent (interest rate or earnings) once a year (the compounding frequency).

The model used for continuous compounding is

 f(t) = Pe^(rt)

where P is the principal amount, and r is the interest rate being compounded. Assuming a typo in your given equation, you have

 f(t) = 1000·e^(0.017t)

Matching the various parts of the equation, we see that P = 1000 and r = 0.017 = 1.7%.

Therefore, the balance grows at a continuous rate of 1.7%.
