Answer:

$0.5

Step-by-step explanation:

<em>"The expected value of one ticket"</em> is what the cost of the television covers.

If 2000 tickets are sold for $ 1 the total amount of all tickets sold is

2000.(1)= 2000

To calculate the expected value of a single ticket, we have to divide the cost of the TV by the price of all tickets sold.

\frac{1000}{2000}= 0.5

The "expected value of a ticket" is the probability of being drawn multiplied by the earnings associated to being drawn.
($1 is the price of the ticket which of course can be different).

So in this case probability is 1/2000 and the earnings would be valued $1000 (value of the plasma TV).
The expected value is 1/2000*1000=1000/2000=$0,5

This means you should not buy a $1 ticket to play except if this really brings you LOTS of amusement ;)

Which two numbers have a sum of 15 and a product of 36
kap26 [50]

Answer:  3  and  12

<u>Step-by-step explanation:</u>

Let x represent one of the numbers and y represent the other number. Then,

Sum:      x + y = 15      →    y = 15 - x

Product: xy  = 36

Use substitution method by replacing "y" with "15 - x" in the second equation, then solve for x:

x(15 - x) = 36

15x - x² = 36

       0  =  x² - 15x + 36

       0  =  (x - 3)(x - 12)

 0 = x - 3     and       0 = x - 12

 x  = 3                       x = 12

Find the values of m and b that make the following function differentiable.
Sonbull [250]
The derivative of f(x) at x=3 is 2x=6 approaching from the left side (apply power rule to y=x^2). The derivative of f(x) at x=3 is m approaching from the right side. In order for the function to be differentiable, the limit of derivative at x=3 must be the same approaching from both sides, so m=6. Then, x^2=mx+b at x=3, plug in m=6, 9=18+b, so b=-9.
