A weightlifter is using heavy weights in short bursts for a competition. Because his muscle cells are not able to take in enough

oxygen to make very much ATP the weightlifter begins to get fatigue in his muscles. Which of the following processes is most likely going on in the muscles of the weightlifter as he competes in his event?
a. As the cells run out of oxygen they switch to anaerobic respiration, which allows the cell to make small amounts of ATP in the absence of oxygen.

b.The cells will never run out of oxygen if the weightlifter is breathing.

c.As the cells run out of oxygen, they die off gradually and the weightlifter's muscles have fewer contracting muscle cells.

d.As the cells run out of oxygen, they will continue to make the same amount of ATP, since oxygen is not required to make ATP.

Answer:

The correct option is A.

Explanation:

Humans need energy to do work. The energy is normally obtain from the chemical energy that is derived from consumed food. During performance of physical activities, the amount of energy needed by the working muscles usually increases and this typically leads to fast depletion of energy. In order to augment the rapidly depleting energy, the muscle cells switch to anaerobic breakdown of glucose, which produce carbon dioxide and alcohol and a little quantity of energy, which the working muscles can use.

How is information from a signal molecule present outside the cell elicits intracellular response? Explain with suitable example
ella [17]

The information from a signal molecule present outside the cell elicits intercellular response when the G protein coupled receptors interact with the wide variety of molecules on the outer surface of the cells.

G Proteins are the specialized proteins having the ability to bind GTP and GDP and is of three units called Alpha, Beta and Gamma subunits which together formed G proteins.

When G protein is activated it will bind GTP and each receptor binds in lock and key method and binding result into conformational change which will trigger a complex chain of events influencing different cell function.

Features exhibited by Signal Transduction System are:

1. Specificity- Signal molecules fits binding site on its complementary receptor. Other signal do not fit

2. Amplification- When enzymes activates enzymes, the number of affected molecules increases.

3. Desensitization- Receptor activation triggers a feedback circuit that shuts off the receptor or removes it from the cell surface.

4. Integration - When two signals have opposite effects on a metabolic characteristics outcome results from the integrated input from both the receptor.

a naturally occurring, in organic solid with a definite chemical composition and an orderly arrangement of atoms
irina [24]

Rock Mineral

Explanation:

Rock minerals are naturally occurring inorganic solids with a definite chemical composition and an orderly arrangement of atoms.

Minerals forms as a result of combination of different elements.

The minerals makes up rocks. A rock is an aggregate of minerals.

  • They are naturally occurring: minerals are not formed in the laboratory through a synthetic process.
  • The are inorganic: not formed by living organisms.
  • Solids: minerals are in the solid phase of matter
  • definite chemical composition:  they are compounds and not mixtures.
  • Orderly arrangement of atoms: they are crystalline
