3x-1x=12
2x=12
2÷2. & 12÷2 =6
x=6

Add 2 from both sides : 3x = x + 12

Subtract x from the right side : 2x = 12

Divide by 2 : x = 6

BTW THIS WAY IS A LOT EASIER.
