Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

The first choice ( -12, 20)

Discussion:

Using matrix multiplication we find the equations:

1x  + 1y = 8                     (A)

2x  + 3y = 36                   (B)

Next, compute

  2(A) - B  =>

         (2x + 2y) - (2x + 3y) = 2*8 - 36    =>

          (2x - 2x) + ( 2y-3y) = 16 - 36 =>

          -y = -20  =>

         y = 20

Substituting this y value in (A) gives

         x + 20 = 8 =>

         x = 8 - 20 =>

        x = -12

The answer is the first choice ( -12, 20)

Thank you,

MrB

Suppose y varies directly as x. If x = 15 when y = 12, find x when y = 21.
Pachacha [2.7K]

Answer:

x=26.25

Step-by-step explanation:

Let y=kx

12=15k

k=k=\frac{12}{15} \\again 21=\frac{12}{15} *x\\x=21*\frac{15}{12} =\frac{105}{4} =26.25

Kate pays $36 for 2 sets of candles. each set has 3 red candles and 3 white candles. what is the cost per candle in these sets
Nat2105 [25]
Assuming that each candle costs the same amount, we divide total cost by the amount of the candles bought. $36/12 candles. Your final answer would be $3 per candle.
