Logan and Jack go to the movie theater and purchase refreshments for their friends. Logan spends a total of $118.50 on 6 drinks

and 10 bags of popcorn. Jack spends a total of $27.50 on 2 drinks and 2 bags of popcorn. Write a system of equations that can be used to find the price of one drink and the price of one bag of popcorn. Using these equations, determine and state the price of a drink, to the nearest cent.

Answer:

6d + 10p = 118.50

2d + 2p = 27.50

drink = $4.75

Step-by-step explanation:

You can solve the system of equations above by using the elimination method.  This method involves using positive and negative coefficients of one variable to eliminate it from the equation and solve for the remaining variable.  Since you are going to be adding the systems together, you need to multiply one of the equations by a negative factor to eliminate one of the variables.

Multiply by a factor of '-3': -3(2d + 2p = 27.50) = -6d - 6p = -82.50

Add the system:  6d + 10p = 118.50

                       + <u> -6d - 6p = -82.50</u>

                                   4p = 36 or p = $9 for popcorn

Since we are solving for the cost of a drink, we can put in the value of $9 for the variable 'p' and solve for 'd':

2d + 2(9) = 27.50 or 2d + 18 = 27.50

Subtract 18 from both sides: 2d + 18 - 18 = 27.50 - 18 or 2d = 9.50

Divide and solve for 'd':  2d/2 = 9.50/2  or d = $4.75

Mr. Casey writes the equation 40 = 16 + 24 = a(b + c). What whole
Nimfa-mama [501]

Answer:

a=8,b=2,c=3

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

40=16+24=a(b+c)

Now, in order to write 16 + 24 into a product of two numbers, we need to find the factors of 16 and 24.

Factors of 16 = 1, 2, 4, <u>8</u>, 16.

Factors of 24 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, <u>8</u>, 12, 24.

Now, common factors for 16 and 24 are 1, 2, 4 and 8.

Now, the values of b\textrm{ and }c should be such that there should be no common factors between them except 1. In other words, b\textrm{ and }c are prime numbers.

So, in order to get prime numbers for b\textrm{ and }c, we should take the greatest common factor for 16 and 24 which is 8.

Therefore 40 = 16 + 24 can rewritten as:

16+24=8(2+3)

So, a=8,b=2,c=3

Find the volume of a right circular cone that has a height of 17.7 cm and a base with a diameter of 15.8 cm. Round your answer t
Lelu [443]

Answer:

1156.8cm^3

Step-by-step explanation:

The volume of a cone is given as:

V =\frac{1}{3}  \pi r^2h

where r = radius

h = height of cone

The height of the cone is 17.7 cm and its base radius is 7.9 cm (diameter is 15.8 cm).

Its volume is:

V = \frac{1}{3} * \pi = 7.9^2 * 17.7\\ \\V = 1156.8cm^3
