Football has impacted our society in many ways. From the early ages in history to present day, sports have had a major impact on society. Football is a very popular sport played in America and many other countries. But not all of the impact that football has brought on society is positive. A lot of the impact is negative. The Superbowl is held on Sundays so most of the people spend their time in front of the t.v. instead of going to church. Domestic violence rises dramadicly after the super bowl. And it has given many people gambling addictions. Sports in society today have had a great impact.

The way we spend our Sundays has changed drastically. Traditionally people would wake up and go to church. They would spend their entire day with God. Sundays used to be a day of rest and a day that is dedicated to God. But now people have forgotten what this day was ment for. People spend their days watching t.v. and football has been a great contributor to this. The Superbowl airs on Sundays so people decide to sit around watching it. They are totally inbursed in the football game giving them an excuse to stay at home, eat, and drink. The super bowl airs for four hours and people are stuck to the t.v. for the whole entire game. Football has had a major impact on our society and because of it people spend their Sundays watching football.

More women are victims to domestic violence during Super Bowl Sunday than on any other day of the year. This is the sad truth that is largely ignored. According to statistics there is a rise in domestic violence during and after the Super Bowl. During the game guys drink and get all hyped up. Football is a relatively aggressive sport which brings out the competitiveness in many people, They have spent hours ruting for a team and then when the team loses people lash out on other in the form of violence. Many are drunk and because of their impaired judgment they may act violently. Football brings an aggressiveness into our society.

Football is one of the 21st century's most loved and hated sports, bringing communities together and at times, tearing them apart. Many people in different societies feel it promotes sexism, racism and violence, and fuels America's culture wars.

American football began in England as a very violent sport which used horses and a hands-off technique. As the sport grew in popularity, it made its way to America. In 1869, the first collegiate match was played between Princeton and Rutgers and from then on, a more hands-on game was played. Football continued evolving and new rules were put in place, many of which are still used today.

As football became more popular, it served as holiday entertainment. People would gather together to watch their favorite teams battle it out on the football field. This helped to bring societies together which is evident in the 1913 battle between Notre Dame and Army. Irish and Catholics, two groups that usually avoided one another, got together to watch the game and cheer for their favorite team.

Temporarily driving a wedge between two groups of people is another way football affects society. This is evident in strong team rivalries like Texas versus OU and Midland versus Odessa, where whole cities will bicker and fight before, during and shortly after the big game.

Well I can’t write the full essay for you but I can give you five individual points and I’ll give some details, and you can expand on them. I’m assuming you’re talking about American football because I’m British but it’s cool, I think I know enough to answer this. Alright so:

•The first way football has impacted American society is through the economy and the Super Bowl. I can’t remember where but I’m sure you can search it up, but I think I read that the American economy loses up to $3bn in lost productivity on the Monday after the Super Bowl due to all the people taking days off.

•The second way through the whole stereotyping and masculinity argument. It’s like how a father and a son can bond over football and that that’s how you raise a man has been so ingrained into American society over the past decades by advertising and other forms of media, that it has genuinely had an impact on today’s society. In the movies, all the ‘cool’ kids are jocks and they all play football but the outcasts are all nerds who can’t play sport, and even though they’re talented in other things, they’re still seen as unpopular and cool because of their inability to play football (or sports in general, but mainly football).

•The third is through American politics. I’m sure you’ve heard of players taking a knee during the anthem, and this has really split American society and there are actual arguments and fights occurring between friends, between families, between two generations of parents vs. kids that argue that taking a knee is either right or wrong etc. I think LeBron James said that sport in general has always been used to carry a message of politics, and Trump retaliated by calling LeBron stupid (I’m paraphrasing, you can find the actual sources online.

•The fourth is through “patriotism” I suppose. I can speak for the UK and most of the world that no one else apart from America really plays football. And that’s literally because the answer’s in the name: American football. This is a sport America exclusively created. It belongs to America and it is huge in America and you guys are proud of this sport. As a society, you might disagree over certain aspects of the sport, but if a Brit came up to you and said soccer is better than football, all of you would team up and absolutely destroy the Brit and say that soccer is nothing compared to football. So in a way, it brings society together.

•Lastly, through education. Many people are enabled to go to university (I think you guys call it college) based off scholarships to play football and other sports. This is a huge thing for American society, as previously, a lot of talented people couldn’t go to college because of the expensive fees that they charge, but through these scholarships, they’re enabled to learn at the same time and gain actual qualifications, which in turn enables society to gain more knowledge and be smarter in general.

So yeah. Those are 5 points you can use. I know they’re not watertight but it’s a solid place to get started on writing. Let me know if you need any further help, good luck!
