The correct answer is C. uses every resource available to him to fight the sharks.

Explanation: In "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway, Santiago was more afraid of the sharks eating the fish he caught, but then sacrificed the fish for his own survival. The blood from the fish attracted sharks, and him harpooning the sharks drew more in. He was able to overcome it despite all odds being against him.

In The Old Man and the Sea the unlucky fisherman, Santiago, sets out to sail far away into the waters to catch some fish and he manages to catch a big marlin. He can't reel it in for a while and when he finally does he's exhausted, and then sharks attack his ship. The answer is "C. uses every resource available to him to fight the sharks"

What part did monasteries play in 14th century travel?
Lana71 [14]

Monasteries were important economic centers.  Because the monks were expected to work, many monasteries became known for their skills at various trades, particularly the production of alcohol.  They would also grow their own food, either for their own consumption or to sell in order to buy things they couldn't produce for themselves.  In many cases monasteries had to clear land for their farms - the ideal was to build in the wilderness - which tended to attract settlers and could result in a town growing up around the monastery.  Also, people would often donate land to their favorite monastery and many of these land grants could be quite profitable in their own right.  It also meant that the monasteries wound up entangled in secular politics, just like any other major medieval landowner.
