Protein microarrays, an emerging class of proteomic technologies, are fast becoming critical tools in biochemistry and molecular biology. Two classes of protein microarray are currently available: analytical and functional protein microarrays. Analytical protein microarrays, most antibody microarrays, have become one of the most powerful multiplexed detection technologies. Functional protein microarrays are being increasingly applied to many areas of biological discovery, including studies of protein interaction, biochemical activity, and immune responses. Great progress has been achieved in both classes of protein microarrays in terms of sensitivity, specificity, and expanded application.

5.01 Why is the cell membrane essential for cell homeostasis?
hodyreva [135]

A cell membrane does not actually maintain homeostasis by itself. The term homeostasis refers to maintaining a relatively stable internal environment inside of a multi-cell organism. Since the internal environment is the interstitial fluid that is around each and every cell, then homeostasis has more to do with what is outside of a cell than what is inside of it. :)

What is the name of the "group" that differs with each amino acid?
Ivahew [28]

Answer:

The R organic group.

Explanation:

Amino acids are a complex of organic compounds that combine to build proteins. The general structure of an amino acid is set by a carboxyl group (―COOH), a basic amino group (―NH2), and an organic R group, unique in every amino acid.

The amino acids differ from each other in the particular chemical structure and organization of hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon and oxygen atoms present in the organic R group.
