el electrophoresis is normally set up with the negative electrode at the top of the gel and the positive electrode at the bottom

of the gel. The DNA products are loaded at the top of the gel, and then a current is applied to separate them. However, when preparing to run a gel, you accidentally switched the locations of the negative and positive electrodes such that the positive electrode is at the top and the negative electrode is at the bottom. You still loaded the DNA products at the top of the gel as normal. What result are you most likely to observe if you apply an electric current to this gel setup?

Answer:

The DNA will still move towards the positive electrode

Explanation:

Gel electrophoresis is a technique which is used by the molecular biologist to separate the fragments of DNA. In the procedure, a DNA sample of a particular concentration of DNA sample composed of a particular length of DNA is loaded into the samples.

The gel is usually set up with the positive electrode at the bottom and negative at the top which by mistake when placed at the bottom and positive at the top.

The DNA will still move from the DNA wells towards the positive side as the DNA moves in the gel as the DNA posses negative charge due to phosphate groups they have and therefore move towards the positive electrode (opposite charge always).

Thus, the DNA will still move towards the positive electrode is correct.

A marine layer is an air mass which develops over the surface of a large body of water such as the ocean or large lake in the presence of a temperature inversion. ... As it cools, the surface air becomes denser than the warmer air above it, and thus becomes trapped below it.

Scientist use data from Gregor Mendel‘s studies to conclude that information about traits is passed from parents to offspring th
vaieri [72.5K]

The correct answer is genes.

A trait refers to the feature like size or color, which is passed from the parents and is inherited by the offspring. The genes control traits and come in pairs, that is, one gene from each parent.

The transmission of hereditary traits possesses its molecular framework in the accurate DNA replication. This generates gene copies, which can be transmitted to the offspring from the parents. In plants and animals, the reproductive cells known as gametes are the mediators, which transfer genes from one generation to the next.

Describe the principle of MPN for enumerating bacteria from a natural sample.
KengaRu [80]

Answer:

MNP stands for the most probable number which is used for finding out the concentration of viable bacteria in a sample. It is commonly used to check the quality of water and its safety. Usually, the presence of fecal coliform bacteria is checked in this test.

Principle of MNP: The sample which is to be tested is diluted serially and then inoculated into a broth medium containing lactose. If coliforms are present in the tube than it will consume lactose and release acid and gas.

Color change represents acid production and gas trapped in the Durham tube represents the gas production by bacteria. Then the number of tubes at each dilution that showed positive results are compared with standards to determine the most probable number of the bacteria.
