Distance from the boat to the town:
d² = 2.2² + 16.8²
d² = 4.84 + 282.24
d² = 287.08
d = √287.08
d = 16.9434 ≈ 16.9 km

What’s the Answer to this I got 24 somehow
Bess [88]

Answer:

0

Step-by-step explanation:

So we have the expression:

\frac{2x+y}{xy-2x}

And we want to evaluate it for x=-4 and y=8.

So, substitute:

\frac{2(-4)+(8)}{(-4)(8)-2(-4)}

Multiply:

=\frac{-8+8}{-32+8}

Add:

=\frac{0}{-24}

Evaluate:

=0

So, our answer is 0.

And we're done!

If Jane has 23 cats and I have 2 cats, and then Jane gives me 5 cats, how many more cats does Jane have than I? Rhonda has 12 ma
Dimas [21]

Answer:

11 cats

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

Jane's initial = 23

My initial = 2

Jane gives out 5 cats to me ;

Jane's new = 23 - 5 = 18

My new = 2 + 5 = 7

Number of cats Jane has than me :

Jane's new - My new

18 - 7 = 11 cats

Second question is incomplete. We aren't told what to calculate.

Find the distance that the points is given on the graph ?
EleoNora [17]

From the graph, the given points are (2,-1) and (4,0). Use the distance between two points formula:

\large \boxed{ \sqrt{ {(x_2 - x_1)}^{2} +  {(y_2 - y_1)}^{2} } }

Substitute these points in the formula.

\large{ \sqrt{ {(2 - 4)}^{2}  +  {( - 1 - 0)}^{2} } } \\  \large{ \sqrt{ {( - 2)}^{2} +  {( - 1)}^{2}  } }  \\  \large{ \sqrt{4 + 1} \longrightarrow  \sqrt{5}  }

Hence, the distance is √5

Answer

  • √5

1. Dolores is on a bridge that is 42 feet above a lake. What is the distance from Dolores to the boat? G
mrs_skeptik [129]

Answer:

See answer below

Step-by-step explanation:

You are missing data such as the angle of the boat next to Dolores. I found an exercise similar to this, and I'm going to show it here and use the missing data to show you how to do it:

<u>Dolores is on a bridge that is 45 feet above a lake. She sees a boat at a 30 degree angle of depression. What is Dolores' approximate horizontal distance from the boat?</u>

<u></u>

According to that, I will use the angle of 30° to do this, but the distance of 42 feet.

Now, we can see this as a triangle. Dolores is on a bridge 42 feet above a lake, this 42 feet distance should be one side of the triangle (The vertical forming the 90° angle), and the boat that is on the lake, is seen with an angle of 30°. So the distance of the boat, to the spot where dolores is, under the bridge would be the horizontal side.

With this, we have the opposite side (a) and the adyacent side (b) of the triangle, and we have the angle, therefore:

tanα = a/b

Replacing we have:

tan30° = 42/b

b = 42 / tan30°

b = 72.75 feet

Hope this helps

Solve the problem algebraically. Clearly define all variables, write an appropriate equation, and solve.
hichkok12 [17]

Answer:

Y=8 and X=21

Step-by-step explanation:

The key to solving word (story) problems is to learn how to translate words and phrases into concise, precise math expressions (variables and operations).  Make a table and add to it as you do problems:

      is              means           =

    more than                        +

      twice                              2*x

      sum                               +

      of                            usually means multiply

     ...

Assign variables.  Try to assign variables to the values the problem asks you to find.

In this problem, there are two variables.   Let x = one number;   y = other numbers

Translate:

 "One number is 5 more than twice the other number"    means

            x          =    5    +        2     *      y

 "sum of the two numbers is 29"     means

      x   +   y                    = 29

Now, the easy math.

Use the value for x from the first equation and substitute that into the second equation:

    (5 + 2y)      +     y       =  29

     5 + 3y = 29                    (collect terms)

           3y = 24                (subtract 5 from both sides)

             y = 8

Now, put that value of y into either equation to solve for x  (Which equation is easier??)

     x + 8 = 29

       x  = 21                 (subtract 8 from both sides)

Checking (very important):

 Is 21 really 5 more than 2(8)?

      21 = 5+16     ?

      21  =  21? yes

 Is  21 + 8 = 29  ?

        29 = 29? yes

p.s., learn the process, don't just get the right answer;  there will be lots of problems that are solved the same way!
