Answer:

When reading a difficult text, use the Say It, Cover It, Resay It method:

Read aloud a sentence or chunk of text with difficult vocabulary.

Cover the text or look away from the text.

Resay the text using your own words.

If someone read up to the second comma in the first sentence from the Declaration of Independence above, they might resay it as: Sometimes during people’s lives, there comes a time for one group to break away from a government or other group they have been connected to.

Readers often find ways to make connections and associations with the texts they are reading. To do this, they might:

Find definitions of unfamiliar words. There will not be context clues for every word in a text, so it can be necessary to consult a dictionary.

Just keep reading. Sometimes reading further in a text can help you better understand or make sense of what has come before.

Take notes or use graphic organizers to help you track ideas and new concepts.

The final tip to reading difficult material is not to become frustrated if you do not understand a text right away. When you approach a point of frustration, take a break. Put the book aside and come back to it later or even the next day. There’s an actual name for this method—distributed reading. While you sleep, your brain can have time to process the material. When you return to the text the next day, it may be easier to understand. And if you find you cannot understand the text no matter what you try, ask for help. Your teachers, librarians, and classmates may be good resources to help you understand what you are missing.

It’s actually a kind of routine that a person can use “to help students express their understandings of an unfamiliar word’s meaning. Have students read a chunk of text containing the unfamiliar word, then cover it with a hand or piece of paper, and resay what the word means in their own words”. Like mentioned in Kipp

Hope this helps :)

Hello Marie Here!!!

(____ That means any name you would like)

I walked into my room and flopped on my bed. "____ Come here please" My mom called for me. I got off my bed and walked toward the kitchen. I sniffed the air "Smells good mom" I said to her. She smiled at me and handed me my plate. I looked down at the food. Cornbread, chicken wings and water I thought. Once I got finished, I walked back into my room and called my best friend ____. "Hello, Hello?" _____ Said. "Hi, I was wondering if you would like to go in the woods and look around?" I asked her. "You just moved here. You sure?" ____ said. "I'm sure" I said while getting dressed for the woods.

I walked out of the door, as ____ ran up to me "Hello, Hello ____" She said to me. I waved at her. We walked into the woods. Ooh AND Ahh. We would say when we saw colorful birds. But then A wolf came up to us growling. I backed up and acted big, while backing up. When I got back to my house I was exhausted, but relieved that I wasn't hurt.

What technique does the author use in each excerpt to
support her purpose?
ankoles [38]

Answer:

B). The first excerpt uses facts and statistics, and the second excerpt is told as a story.

Explanation:

The first excerpt from 'Children of the Drug Wars' employs factual and statistical information that helps the author to serve her purpose of educating the readers about the impact of violence(led by wars) on children. It also informs them regarding the increase in percentage of asylum claims as the violence left the children mentally distorted and it is this reason made around 58% to flee. While the second excerpt from 'Enrique's Journey' uses a narrative style to portray the hardships faced by Enrique to reconcile with his mother('jams his body, jumps off, etc.) through which the audience can connect themselves emotionally and elicit intended response. Thus, option B is the correct answer.
