The GREEKS believed in gods and goddesses because they needed someone to call out to in their time of need. They needed someone of a higher power to protect them in their time of need.

They believed in Gods and goddesses so if they needed help in a certain task they would ask the gods or goddesses for help. This isn't Egyptian mythology but it's Greek mythology I hope you get the point if it hadn't been raining or the lake dried out the would pray to posiden for water because he was the god of the seas
