Answer:

Hi!

1.Well, let's try simplifying 4:18 so we can compare.

If we divide 4:18 by 2, we get 2:9

We can see that 2:9 =/= 2:12

Thus, the two are not equivalent ratios.

2. 5:20 and 15:60 are equivalent, 5:20 x 3 to both numbers is 15:60

Therefore, It is equivalent.

3. 17 times 4 is 68 and 3 times 4 is 12. 17:3 and 68:12 are equivalent because you can times and divide them into each other

4. He read for 180 minutes.

You can find that because every time he practices math for five minutes, he reads for 20, and 45 is 5, 9 times. So you multiply 20 by 9.

5. If he eats 3 slices in 2 minutes, he will have eaten 15 pieces in 10 minutes.

6. For this one, I hope my calculations are correct, but I do NOT think August made the correct recipe using the correct ratio.

If #6 is wrong, I sincerely Apologize, but I know for a fact #5 is Correct.

Hope this helps! If you need anymore help Let me know i'd be happy to help you!

Multiply 3/sqrt17- sqrt2 by which fraction will produce an equivalent fraction with rational denominator
zzz [600]

Answer:

B.

Step-by-step explanation:

To simplify something that looks like \frac{\text{whatever}}{\sqrt{a}-\sqrt{b}} you would multiply the top and bottom by the conjugate of the bottom. So you multiply the top and bottom for this problem I just made by:

\sqrt{a}+\sqrt{b}.

If you had  \frac{\text{whatever}}{\sqrt{a}+\sqrt{b}}, then you would multiply top and bottom the conjugate of \sqrt{a}+\sqrt{b} which is \sqrt{a}-\sqrt{b}.

The conjugate of a+b is a-b.

These have a term for it because when you multiply them something special happens.  The middle terms cancel so you only have to really multiply the first terms and the last terms.

Let's see:

(a+b)(a-b)

I'm going to use foil:

First:  a(a)=a^2

Outer: a(-b)=-ab

Inner:  b(a)=ab

Last:    b(-b)=-b^2

--------------------------Adding.

a^2-b^2

See -ab+ab canceled so all you had to do was the "first" and "last" of foil.

This would get rid of square roots if a and b had them because they are being squared.

Anyways the conjugate of \sqrt{17}-\sqrt{2} is

\sqrt{17}+\sqrt{2}.

This is the thing we are multiplying and top and bottom.

0.8 x 103 because the first number cant be less then 1 or more then 9 you would have to move the decimal to make the equation correct

Part (a)

<h3>Answer: x^3 + 12x^2 + 47x + 60</h3>

--------------------------

Work Shown:

Let's say we have

  • L = length = x+5
  • W = width = x+4
  • H = height = x+3

To find the volume of the block, we multiply the length width and height.

So,

volume = (length)*(width)*(height)

V = L*W*H

V = LW*(x+3) .... replace H with (x+3)

V = LW*x + LW*3 .... distribute

V = Lx*(W) + 3L*(W)

V = Lx(x+4) + 3L(x+4) .... replace W with x+4

V = Lx^2 + 4Lx + 3Lx + 12L .... distribute

V = Lx^2 + 7Lx + 12L

V = x^2*(L) + 7x*(L) + 12*(L)

V = x^2*(x+5) + 7x*(x+5) + 12*(x+5) .... replace L with x+5

V = x^3 + 5x^2 + 7x^2 + 35x + 12x + 60 .... distribute

V = x^3 + 12x^2 + 47x + 60

x^3 + 12x^2 + 47x + 60 is the polynomial in standard form that represents the volume of the block.

Part (b)

<h3>Answer: 336 cubic feet</h3>

--------------------------

Work Shown:

We can plug x = 3 into the polynomial we found

V = x^3 + 12x^2 + 47x + 60

V = (3)^3 + 12(3)^2 + 47(3) + 60

V = 27 + 12(9) + 47(3) + 60

V = 27 + 108 + 141 + 60

V = 336

Or we could find the volume like this

V = L*W*H

V = (x+5)*(x+4)*(x+3)

V = (3+5)*(3+4)*(3+3)

V = (8)*(7)*(6)

V = 336

Either way, we get the same volume of 336 cubic feet.
