Damage to this structure causes a decrease in these sensations and prevents the individual from being able to feel conditioned fear, which is the ability of an individual to associate an object or a situation with something threatening.

Some people may even think that damage to this brain structure would be beneficial, as it is responsible for feelings that we don't like to feel. However, these feelings are fundamental to keep us away from dangerous situations, inconsequential behaviors and stressful situations that can cause us a lot of harm.
