Answer:

51.5 square units

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the area of an irregular shape, one method that can be used is to divide the area into simple shapes. Then you calculate the area of each simple shape using a known formula. Finally, you add all the areas together.

Let's divide the area into 2 trapezoids and 1 triangle.

First trapezoid at the bottom:

Draw a segment from point F to (11, -6), which is 2 units above B.

Below this segment, there is a trapezoid with base lengths: 11 and 6, and height 2.

Area of first trapezoid = (b1 + b2)h/2 = (11 + 6)(2)/2 = 17

Second trapezoid in the middle:

Draw a segment from point E through point D and ending at point (11, -3).

Below this segment, there is a trapezoid with base lengths: 11 and 7, and height 3.

Area of second trapezoid = (b1 + b2)h/2 = (11 + 7)(3)/2 = 27

Triangle on top:

The segment from point D to point (11, -3) is the bottom side of a triangle whose base is 5 and whose height is 3.

Area of triangle = bh/2 = (5)(3)/2 = 7.5

Total Area = Area of first trapezoid + area of second trapezoid + area of triangle

Total Area = 17 + 27 + 7.5

Total Area = 51.5

Dustin has only nickels and quarters in his piggy bank. He has 49 coins total for a combined value of $8.85. How many of each ty
eduard
Well obviously quarters equal 25 cents.  So you have to divide the 8.85 by 25 first.  That means he could have 35 quarters.  That least the rest as being dimes.  So find the remaining amount of the 8.85.  If you have 35 quarters that's $8.75.  And 8.85 minus 8.75 is 10 cents.  which would be 2 nickels.  That only adds up 37 coins.  So you break down one of the 25.  That would mean 5 more coins could be nickels.  Add 37 and 5 to get 42.   Do it again.  25 cents in nickels would be 5 more coins.  would be 46.  that would be missing 2 coins. But don't forget you're also subtracting from the 35 quarters. Now you would technically have 12 nickels and 33 quarters.  So you can do it one more time.  32 quarters means there is $8 in quarters at this point.

Now add you have 12 nickels, and you made 5 more.  That's 17 nickels.  That equals 85 cents.  So add 17 and 32 to be sure you have 49 coins, which you do.

So 17 nickels, 32 quarters to equal 49 coins and $8.85

(sorry some of it got mixed up above because I was forgetting to subtract the quarters from the total as I changed them to nickels, so pay attention to the end)

ABCD is a parallelogram and this figure is NOT drawn to scale.
dimulka [17.4K]
The angle does not matter. Think of it as finding the other side to a triangle. Use a ^{2} +b^2 =c^2

a=39 (line AB)
b=b (the leg we need to find)
c=89 (line BD)

39^2 + b^2 = 89^2
1521 + b^2 = 7921
(subtract the 1521 from both sides)
b^2 = 6400
(square root both sides)
\sqrt{(b^2)} =  \sqrt{6400}

b = 80
AD=80

If you are on a ship at sea navigating to a point that is 300 miles north and 400 miles west, find the distance from tour ship t
s344n2d4d5 [400]

Answer:

\huge \boxed{\mathrm{500 \ miles}}

Step-by-step explanation:

A right triangle is formed.

300 miles and 400 miles are the legs of the triangle.

We can apply Pythagorean theorem.

c=\sqrt{300^2 +400^2 }

c=\sqrt{90000 +160000}

c=\sqrt{250000}

c=500
