What is the justification for step 2 in the solution process?
igomit [66]

Answer:

y = 11

Step-by-step explanation:

Solve for y

12y - 40 - 4y = 6y - 18

8y -40 = 6y - 18

8y - 6y - 40 = -18

2y - 40 = -18 ( the justification for step 2 is to isolate y on one side of the                   equation in order to solve for y )

2y - 40 + 40 = 40 - 18

2y = 22

2y/2 = 22/2

y = 11

Check :

12(11) - 40 - 4(11) = 6 (11) - 18

132 - 40 - 44 = 66 - 18

48= 48

Although not so common now, consider a phone plan that does not have unlimited texting. Your base plan costs you $30 a month and
german

Answer:

The bill will be $26070.

Step-by-step explanation:

Your base plan costs you $30 a month

And each text sent or received is only 12 cents or $0.12.

Let the messages sent be = x

So, cost for messages become = 0.12x

Let total bill cost be = y

Now, total bill will comprise of monthly plan charges plus message charges.

So, equation forms:

y=30+0.12x

Now, given is that In one month 217,000 messages were sent between two brothers in Philadelphia.

So, their approximate bill will be :

y=30+0.12(217000)

=>y=30+26040

=> y = 26070

Therefore, bill will be $26070.

Solve for the unknown in the following diagram. Round the answer to two decimal places.<br>in<br>
Alexxandr [17]

Answer:

172.27 in

Step-by-step explanation:

Apply the Sine Rule

Sine Rule is given as:

\frac{a}{sin(A)} = \frac{b}{sin(B)} = \frac{c}{sin(C)}

c = x = ?

C = 180 - (52 + 48) = 80° (sum of triangle)

b = 130 in.

B = 48°

Plug in the values

\frac{130}{sin(48)} = \frac{x}{sin(80)}

Multiply both sides by sin(80)

\frac{130*sin(80)}{sin(48)} = x

172.274641 = x

x = 172.27 in. (to 2 decimal places)

In a box containing a dozen eggs ,3 eggs are rotten .What fraction of eggs are not rotten?
Minchanka [31]

Answer:

3/4 of the eggs are not rotten.

Step-by-step explanation:

a dozen = 12 eggs

3+3+3+3 = 12

3x4 = 12

1/4 = 3/12

2/4 = 6/12

3/4 = 9/12   <--- |

4/4 = 12/12        |

12-3 = 9  ---------|

SO 3/4 eggs are not rotten

Solve for y -72=8(y-3)
DaniilM [7]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

y - 72 = 8(y - 3)

Distribute the 8 into (y - 3).

y - 72 = 8y - 24

Subtract 8y from both sides.

-7y - 72 = -24

Add 72 to both sides.

-7y = 48

Divide both sides by -7.

y = -48/7 or approxametly -6.9.

Proof:

y - 72 = 8(y - 3)

Substitute variable.

-48/7 - 72 = 8(-48/7 - 3)

Subtract.

-552/7 = 8(-69/7)

Multiply 8 by the inside term -69/7.

-552/7 = -552/7.
