Cooperation allows the group to do many things that a lone animal could never do.

Cooperation is an adaptation that evolved atleast in part to increase the success among animals.

Examples of cooperation in animal behavior are;

Animals forming defensive circles, all facing outwards so that that their rears are not exposed and their young (in the centre) are protected and Pack Hunting which is animals often hunting in packs so that they can kill larger animals.
