The word 'LEADING' has 7 different letters.  When the vowels EAI are always together, they can be supposed to form one letter.  Then, we have to arrange the letters LNDG (EAI).  Now, 5 (4 + 1 = 5) letters can be arranged in 5! = 120 ways.  The vowels (EAI) can be arranged among themselves in 3! = 6 ways. <span> Required number of ways = (120 x 6) = 720.  The word 'LEADING' can be arranged 720 different ways in such a way that vowels always come together. </span>

We have 3 vowels. The number of ways we can arrange them so they are next to each other is 3!=6. Now we have to find the number of ways we can arrange these 3 vowels with the remaining letters. As the vowels have to come together, we can treat them as one letter. Therefore we have 5 letter altogether. The number of ways we can arrange the vowels with the remaining letters is 5!=120.

6*120=720

Find the value of x........................
Ann [662]

Answers: x = 4 and y = 3

============================================================

Explanation:

Triangle UBD is congruent to triangle RAN

Note the order of the lettering as it's important.

BD and AN are the last two letters of UBD and RAN in that order. Therefore, these sides correspond and BD = AN. From that, we know,

BD = AN

2y+5 = 3y+2

5-2 = 3y-2y

3 = 1y

y = 3

-----------

Using similar logic, UD and RN are the first and last letters of UBD and RAN respectively. So,

UD = RN

15 = 2x+7

2x+7 = 15

2x = 15-7

2x = 8

x = 8/2

x = 4

Ken has a rectangular shaped vegetable garden that is 15 feet by 9 feet. He would like to increase the length and width by the s
tigry1 [53]

The current area is 15 x 9 = 135 square feet.

He wants to increase both the length and width by X:

Set up an equation:

(15 +x) * (9 +x) = 135 * 2

Simplify :

x^2 + 24x  +  135 = 270

Subtract 270 from both sides:

x^2 + 24x - 135 = 0

Use the quadratic formula to solve for x:

-24 +/- √(24^2 - 4(1*-135) / 2*1

x = 4.7 or -28.7

The answer has to be a positive value, so x = 4.7 feet.
