An author claims that "Athletes caught using performance-enhancing drugs should be sentenced to prison." The author provides the

following reason as support:
A cool article in Kid's Sports Magazine says athletes are role models. I agree! It's heartbreaking for kids to learn that our heroes are cheaters. If players do steroids, send them to prison! They deserve to be punished for making us look stupid for cheering for them.

Which choice best describes the reason the author provides?
It is effective. It supports the claim clearly and logically.
It is emotional. It expresses personal feelings that cannot be backed with research.
It is irrelevant. It discusses a fact that is off topic and does not support the claim.
It is unverified. It does not cite a source to show where the information was located.

The correct answer is: It is emotional. It expresses personal feelings that cannot be backed with research.

The use of the word "heartbraking" shows the author's feelings, these only speaks about his personal point of view as the subject addressed could not affect someone else in the same way. By using exlamation marks he demonstrates his anger, he is not thinking in a logical and reasonable manner as his emotions speak. Therefore the support used seems unvalid, as it represent a personal point of view that can't be compared, logical evidence is needed, for example: the use of drugs as a crime.

Question 2
Zinaida [17]

Answer:

B. In the introduction paragraph

Explanation:

A thesis statement focuses your ideas into one or two sentences. It should present the topic of your paper and also make a comment about your position in relation to the topic. Your thesis statement should tell your reader what the paper is about and also help guide your writing and keep your argument focused. For example, with an informative essay, you should compose an informative thesis (rather than argumentative). You want to declare your intentions in this essay and guide the reader to the conclusion that you reach. A persuasive thesis usually contains an opinion and the reason why your opinion is true.
