The KPC or Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase is a dangerous bug that wreaked havoc in New York City. The outbreak infected hundreds of people and hospitals were flooded with people that had this different type of superbug that confused the medical world for a while.

<u>EXPLANATION:</u>

  • The bug was completely resistant to drugs and antibiotics of any combination didn’t seem to work.
  • The bug lurked in the over-crowded and dirty parts of New York in its drains, sinkholes, and quickly spread from one infected person to another. In total, 11 people died from the KPC infection.
