A major battle of the French and Indian War took place at Fort Duquesne. The French built Fort Duquesne in 1754 at the point where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers flow together to form the Ohio River. Fearing that the British were going to take the fort in November 1758, the French destroyed it rather than giving it up to the British. The British built a new fort called Fort Pitt near the same location. This is where the city of Pittsburgh is located.
