Farmer Phil needs to treat a field with potash and nitrogen. He knows he needs 308 pounds of potash and 330 pounds of nitrogen.

He can use Grow Rite brand and Great Green Brand. Grow Rite has 4 pounds of potash and 5 pounds of nitrogen per bag. Great Green has 7 pounds of potash and 6 pounds of nitrogen per bag.

Answer:

The number of bags of Grow Rite brand = x = 42 bags

The number of bags of Great Green brand = y = 20 bags.

Step-by-step explanation:

The number of bags of Grow Rite brand = x

The number of bags of Great Green brand = y

The equation is given as:

4x + 7y = 308....... Equation 1

5x + 6y = 330....... Equation 2

Using Elimination method.

Multiply Equation 2 by the coefficient of x in Equation 1 and Multiply Equation 1 by the coefficient of x in Equation 2

4x + 7y = 308....... Equation 1 × 5

5x + 6y = 330....... Equation 2 × 4

20x + 35y = 1540..... Equation 3

20x + 24y = 1320....... Equation 4

Subtract Equation 3 from Equation 4

11y = 220

y = 220/11

y = 20 bags

4x + 7y = 308....... Equation 1

4x + 7(20) = 308

4x + 140 = 308

4x = 308 - 140

4x = 168

x = 168/4

x = 42 bags

The number of bags of Grow Rite brand = x = 42 bags

The number of bags of Great Green brand = y = 20 bags.

A baker has 14 boxes of muffins to fill. Each box has 12 muffins. He has already boxes 45 muffins. How many more muffins does th
cricket20 [7]

Answer:

123 more muffins

Step-by-step explanation:

To find out how many to box in total you would do 14 x 12 = 168

168 - 45 = 123

Since 45 were already boxed, 123 more would be needed to make 14 boxes.

Who packed all the pies? Kane’s bakery makes four flavour pies. The weight of each flavour pie is follows:
svet-max [94.6K]
This is an identical problem answered by myself a few days ago. The answer is reproduced below for your convenience.

It is a very difficult problem if the box sizes are smaller or if there are more pies to pack.
For this particular problem, we first calculate the total weight of pies:
4 apple pies at 700 g = 2800 g
8 banoffee pies at 725 g =5800 g
3 custaard pies at 600 g = 1800 g
5 rhubarb pies at 675 g = 3375 g
for a total of 13775 g

The minimum number of boxes needed will be 13775/4000=3.44, or at least 4 boxes will be required.

We also note that 4 boxes will hold 16000 g, and we only need to pack 13775g, so there is a lot of margin.

We can proceed to do the mechanical way, fill in order of apple, banoffee, custard, and finally rhubarb pies.Following table shows how we fill, naively: box content Remaining to pack
Box A B C R     Weight    A B C R
0                                      4  8  3 5     (original order)
1     4  1  0 0     3525       0  7  3 5
2     0  5  0 0     3625       0  2  3 5
3     0  2  3 0     3250       0  0  0 5
4     0  0  0 5     3375       0  0  0 0
Total weight     13775 g

So that does the job, 4 boxes (minimum) with none exceeding 4000 g to pack a total of 13775 g of pies.

Jocelyn is training for a race by running several miles each day. she tracks her progress by recording her average speed in minu
Luden [163]

Finding the regression equation, her average speed on the 9th day should be expected to be of 6.92 minutes per mile.

How to find the equation of linear regression using a calculator?

To find the equation, we need to insert the points (x,y) in the calculator.

Researching the problem on the internet, the values of x and y are given as follows:

  • Values of x: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
  • Values of y: 8.2, 8.1, 7.5, 7.8, 7.4, 7.5.

Hence, using a calculator, the equation for the average minutes per mile after t days is given by:

V(t) = -0.15143t + 8.28

Hence, for the 9th day, t = 9, hence the estimate is:

V(9) = -0.15143(9) + 8.28 = 6.92 minutes per mile.
