Let the width of the table be = x inches

As the length of a table is 16 inches more than its width, so length = x+16

Area of the rectangular table = 720 square inches

Area of rectangle = length*width

720=x(x+16)

720=x^{2}+16x

x^{2}+16x-720=0

x^{2}+36x-20x-720=0

x(x+36)-20(x+36)=0

(x-20)(x+36)=0

x=20 and x=-36

Neglect the negative value as length and width cannot be negative

So, width = 20 inches

Length = x+16 = 20+16 = 36 inches

Hence, length is 36 inches and width is 20 inches.

erik [133]

Answer:

Greatest number of newspaper ads = 59

Greatest number of television ads = 23

Step-by-step explanation:

It is given that we should buy at least 5 newspapers for every 3 television ads.

So, after purchasing 3 television ads, we can buy any number of television ads but the number should be greater than 5.

Since, the maximum is 62, we can buy 59 newspaper ads. (Note that we have already bought 3 television ads).

For every 3 television ads, we should buy 5 newspaper ads. So,

For the purchase of 3 television ads, we should buy the minimum of 5 newspaper ads.

For the purchase of 2(3) television ads, we should buy the minimum of 2(5) newspaper ads.

For the purchase of 3(3) television ads, we should buy the minimum of 3(5) newspaper ads.

...

...

For the purchase of 7(3) = 21 television ads, we should buy the minimum of 7(5) = 35 newspaper ads.

So, totally 21+35 = 56 ads.

For the remaining 6 ads, if we buy 3 television ads, we should buy 5 newspaper ads.

So, we can buy 2 television ads and 4 newspaper ads.

Hence, we can buy the maximum of 21+2 = 23 television ads.

The population in the trapezoid-shaped region shown is about 3000 people. How many people are there per square mile?
Anastasy [175]

Answer: \frac{3,000}{A}

Step-by-step explanation:

Since the figure is not attached, below you can see a general explanation of the procedure to solve the exercise:

For this exercise you can apply the following formula, which is used to calculate the area of a trapezoid:

A=\frac{h(B+b) }{2}

Where "B" and "b" are the bases of the trapezoid and "h" is the height.

So, substituting values into the formula and evaluating, you can find the area of trapezoid-shaped region.

Since the population in the trapezoid-shaped region is about 3,000 people, you can find the number of people per square mile dividing the population by the area of the region.

Then, the following expression represents the number of people per square mile in that region:

\frac{3,000}{A}
