What does the sentence "The public began to doubt the money was worth anything" mean in the context of the whole paragraph?

Incomplete question. Here's the excerpt containing the sentence:

<em>"Because of its weakness, the Confederation government had trouble with financial issues. Continentals, paper bills the Continental Congress printed during the war, did not hold their value. By 1781, the currency had depreciated (dih • PREE • shee • ayt • ed), or fallen in value, so far that it was worth almost nothing. As more continentals appeared, people realized that Congress could not exchange or trade in the bills for gold or silver. </em><em><u>The public began to doubt the money was worth anything</u></em><em>. In 1779 it took 40 continentals to buy a single Spanish silver dollar. By 1781, a person needed 146 continentals to buy that Spanish coin. "Not worth a continental” became a common saying. At the same time, the price of food and other goods soared. In Boston and some other areas, high prices led to food riots."</em>

<u>Explanation:</u>

Meaning the money had very little value in the eyes of Americans at the time. Remember, from the paragraph we are told, "t<em>he currency had depreciated..., or fallen in value, so far that it was worth almost nothing," </em>furthermore we are told, "<em>In 1779 it took 40 continentals to buy a single Spanish silver dollar. By 1781, a person needed 146 continentals to buy that Spanish coin." </em>So in just two years (1779-1781), the currency had depreciated (or loss its value) by about 350%.

How did Americans disagree over the role of federal and state governments before and during the civil war ?
MAXImum [283]
From what I can remember, states' rights was a large factor contributing to the Civil War. With Lincoln becoming president and representing the North, the Southern states seceded, leading to a war. The state governments of the South argued that since the Constitution and the federal government was created by the states, the federal government had no right to stop states from seceding. President Lincoln and other northerners disagreed and wanted to preserve the Union by stopping states from seceding.
After the war, I believe the South still disagreed on a strong federal government. They wanted to rule the area by themselves.

The most significant changes and continuities in Western and Central Asia from 1400 to 1700 were the following.

In the 1400s, the Timurid Empire had control over this region. Timur was the leader of the Empire. The members of this dynasty ordered the rebuilding of the Citadel, the Bazaar, and new buildings are constructed. They establish a new capital, Herat; that became an important center for the Muslims.

The wife of Emperor Shah Rukh ordered the construction of mosques to teach women about the importance of Islam.

Dayan Khan became emperor in 1491, but he fell short of expectations and his period represents the decline of the Timurid Empire. In 1507, Babur, from the same family founds the Mughal Empire in India.

In 1543, Altan Khan coverts into Buddhism and became a Lama in Tibet.
