Spoils system refers to giving preferences to the party loyalist at the federal offices in-place of political opponents. Although it was used by Thomas Jefferson but it reached new height at president Andrew Jackson when he asked to remove for his entire cabinet including his vice president. The loyalty of a person becomes more important than merits in the spoil system.
