Answer:

decomposition

Balanced chemical equation:

2HgO → 2Hg + O₂

Explanation:

Chemical equation:

HgO → Hg + O₂

Balanced chemical equation:

2HgO → 2Hg + O₂

The given reaction shows the decomposition reaction. Mercury oxide decompose and produced its constituent elements mercury and oxygen.

The oxidation state of mercury is +2 while that of oxygen is -2.

Decomposition reaction:

It is the reaction in which one reactant is break down into two or more product.

General equation:

AB → A + B

Which of the following did Antoine Lavoisier correctly characterize as an element?
Reika [66]
I think the element that has been correctly defined by Antoine Lavoisier would be the element oxygen. He is famous for the discovery of the importance of the molecule oxygen in the process of combustion. He is is the one who characterized and named the element oxygen and hydrogen. Also, showing how these atoms combine in order to form a water molecule in the combustion process. He is considered as the father of modern chemistry as he helped in organizing nomenclature of the chemical compounds. He also is responsible for laying the foundations of the famous law of conservation of mass.

Draw a structural formula of an alkene or alkenes (if more than one) that undergo acid-catalyzed hydration and without rearrange
lara31 [8.8K]

Answer:

-) 2-methylbut-2-ene

-) 2-methylbut-1-ene

-) 3-methylbut-1-ene

Explanation:

in this case, the hydration of alkenes is a marknovnikov reaction, this means that the "OH" group would be added in the most substituted carbon of the double bond. (Figure 1)

For 2-methylbut-2-ene the most substituted carbon is the tertiary carbon (the carbon in the right of the double bond), so we will obtain the desired molecule. In 2-methylbut-1-ene the most substituted carbon is again the tertiary carbon (the carbon in the bottom of the double bond), so we will obtain 2-methyl-2-butanol. Finally, for 3-methylbut-1-ene the carbocation would be formed on carbon 3, this is a secondary carbocation. We can obtain a most stable carbocation if we do a hydride shift (Figure 2). With this new molecule is possible to obtain 3-methylbut-1-ene.

How does vegetation on river banks affects erosion
zhenek [66]

Answer:

Results of this research indicated woody riparian vegetation reduced the susceptibility of stream bank soils to erosion by fluvial entrainment. ... In addition to reinforcing the stream banks, riparian vegetation also affected soil moisture and altered the local microclimate.

Explanation:

basically it helps the ground to stay in place.
