Iambic feet have two beats. A "beat" would be an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable. You can hear a "beat" in the way the emphasis is placed on the unstressed versus the stressed syllables. Iambic feet go on to make a variety of poetic styles, such as iambic pentameter.
