Suppose the state is trying to decide how many miles of a very scenic river it should preserve. There are 100 people in the comm

unity, each of whom has an identical inverse demand function given by P=10-1.0q, where q is the number of miles preserved and P is the per-mile price he or she is willing to pay for q miles of preserved river.
(a)If the marginal cost of preservation is $500 per mile, how many miles would be preserved in an efficient allocation?
(b)How large is the economic surplus?

Answer:

(a) Efficient Quantity of miles preserved Q = 1000/600 = 1.67miles

(b) Economic Surplus = S_{a} = 139 dollars

Explanation:

(a) Efficient Quantity is obtained where Demand curve meets Supply Curve

(Aggregate) Demand Curve is given by P = 1000 - 100q

(That's adding 100 individual demand curve. For example, at the first mile preserved, each would be willing to pay 10 - 1 = 9 dollar, so 100 people would be willing to pay 900 dollar)

Supply Curve is given by P=500q

(For every additional mile preserved the the price increases 500 dollar, and the first mile would cost 500 dollar)

Demand and Supply Curves meet at equilibrium price, given by 1000 - 100q = 500q.

Solving for q we get 1.67

(b) Economic Surplus is given by the area under the Demand Curve but above the Price (the vertical dotted line). In other words, S_{a}

Because the community is willing to pay for a+b+c to preserve the river at the efficient quantity but only have to pay b+c (Quantity x Price)

Efficient Price is obtained at efficient quantity. P = 1000 - 100*1.67 = 833

S_{a} = 0.5*(1000-833)*1.67 = 139 dollars

Eddi Din [679]

The factory overhead allocated per unit of Product A in the Painting Department is $ .

Given,

Overhead Total direct DLH per product

                                                    Labour Hours A B

Painting dept. $241000 10500 8 11

Finishing dept. $69700 10500 5 6

Totals $311400 21000 13 17

Single overhead rate per hour = total overheads/ total labor hours

Now, substituting the values in the formula

Single overhead rate per hour = 311400/21000

                                                   = $14.83 per labor hour

Now, direct labor hours for product A for the Painting department = 16 hours

Overhead rate per unit of product A in the painting department = 16 hours × $14.83 per hour

Overhead rate = $237.28 per unit

Thus, Adirondak Marketing Inc. would allocate $237.28 to the painting department for 1 unit of Product A.

When looking at a firm's behavior, you know it is engaging in price discrimination when it:__________
Andreas93 [3]

Answer:

a. charges a different price to different customers that is not reflective of the firm's costs.

Explanation:

The price discrimination strategy occurs when an organization charges a different price to different customers that does not reflect the company's costs, that is, the company divides its potential customers into groups, usually based on customer perceptions and characteristics and demographic data to evaluate which group of customers is willing to pay more or less for a particular product or service.

This is a strategy that can be favorable for companies to charge a maximum price for their product knowing that it will be accepted, but it is effective in large companies that have a high position in the market.

aniked [119]

Answer:

small; standardized; little or no

Explanation:

A perfect competition is when there are many firms in an industry selling standardised or identical goods and services. It is characterised by many buyers and sellers . Sellers have small market share because of the large number of sellers in the market. Prices are usually set by market forces. Sellers cannot influence the price their products sell for , therefore, they are price takers.

There is little or no need for advertising as all firms sell identical goods.
