Grant fefused many of Lee's surrender. Grant didnt want to give Lee and terms. Grant said Unconditional surrender (non-negotiable (cause Grant didnt want Lee to ask for money or other things if he surrenders)) or war. This became a very famous speech and gave grant the nickname Ulysses "Unconditional" Grant. Lee eventually agreed to unconditional surrender.
