Before any interaction with a different culture group, I should consider what I know about that culture group. What I know about the Lilliputians is that they are six-inch-tall people. I also know, from their interactions with Gulliver, that they are quite selfish. The Lilliputians would need for other culture groups to understand that about them. That being said, I should not only recognize their culture, but also my own. One of the aspects of my culture is to be unselfish. I would need to make sure that I did not allow the Lilliputians to take advantage of my good nature.

Please briefly explain how to use litotes in a poem and give an example.
sleet_krkn [62]

Answer:

Litotes is an understatement in which a positive statement is expressed by negating its opposite. This sounds like a strange definition, but a few examples will make the meaning clear.

The classic example of litotes is the phrase “not bad.” By negating the word “bad,” you’re saying that something is good, or at least OK. However, in most contexts it’s an understatement. For example: “Not bad! Not bad at all!” The idea here is that someone is actually pretty excited about something – that they think it’s a lot better than just “not bad.”

Explanation:

After someone hires you, you might say, “Thank you, ma’am, you won’t regret it.” The negation is an understatement, of course – what you really mean is that your boss will be happy with your performance.

Which of the following is the antecedent of the pronoun theirs in the sentence below?
lorasvet [3.4K]
An antecedent of a pronoun is a word that refers to the same thing as this pronoun.

here the pronoun is "theirs"

Rivers stopped flowing along the bank's so that they could hear Orpheus, whose music was harmonious than theirs.
(all the words in Boldface refer to the same thing).

What does the "theirs" refer to? it refers to their music, and the they is the Rivers (it's a personification of rivers)

The antecedent is the river!
