It serves as a basic for evolution as the different heritable characteristics in an individual is due to natural selection. Natural selection acts on the phenotype of the individual which is the visual observance while Genetic drift is the change in frequency of an allele that already exist in a population. This could lead to the allele being selected against and if very small can be lost with time.
