Margo read two epics. The first epic is the story of a soldier who got lost at sea and sailed for many years before finding his

way home. While he was gone, his family struggled financially. Knowing how much their father valued his ancestors’ homeland, his children refused bribes of food and money offered in exchange for the land. They preferred to live humbly and proudly. Upon his return, their father’s joy was boundless, which pleased his sons and daughters. The second epic is the story of a great leader and prince who was banished from his home by an evil cousin. While traveling and living a simple life in the forest, the prince met and married a princess. Despite their royal backgrounds, neither of them minded living safely hidden in the forest. This humility saved their lives on a number of occasions, and their great happiness did not depend on living in a castle. When comparing these two myths, what qualities do both myth-tellers seem to value?
a) home and property

Answer:

c) Humility and humbleness .

Explanation:

Epics are long narrative poems or stories that tell the deeds of a hero against adverse situations, sometimes involving supernatural forces. They also relay a moral theme for the readers in their trials in achieving their goals.

From both of the epic stories read by Margo, the theme of humility and humbleness are reflected and valued. In the first epic, the family of the sailor kept his homeland even at times of adversaries, even though they needed the "<em>bribes of food and money offered in exchange for the land</em>". Instead, they chose to live humbly and proudly within their own expense, making safe the home is intact when their father returns.

Likewise, the second epic also shows the couple living in simplicity, away from their 'deserved' and rightful palaces and riches. Their royal background means nothing to them in comparison to living a life of happiness and safety. Choosing humility and humbleness in contrast to wealth and royalty, they embody a good moral virtue to be learned by the readers.
