- Led to laws about workplace safety
Mr. Sinclair wrote the piece to draw attention to the plight of workers but after reading the piece, the government decided that they should go a step further and protect the integrity of food and drugs.
In conclusion, laws about food and drug safety were not the intention of Upton Sinclair but were still good.

Taxes are a way for the government to collect money from its citizens. Almost every item you purchase has a tax attached to it and some products have higher taxes tahn others.
Once the government collect the taxes, they use it to build roads, schools and parks. The government decides how much of those taxes goes to which department.
There are many ways you benefit from taxes, the salary that your teacher collects comes from taxes, so does police and fire men and every public employee you can think of. When you go to the park and play and you see all the swings in perfect shape, that maintenance can happen thanks to taxes.
A budget is an estimation of how much money you have and how much money you can spend. you can make a budget by taking how much you earned and how much does it cost to purchase the items that you want, the cost of the items that you want must not be higher than the total amount of the money you earned.
Both budgets pretty much works the same way. It's the amount of money you or the government have to spend, the difference is in the things that you spend it on. You can spend it on whatever item you want to get and the government has to spend it in departments beneficial to the community.
Hope this helps
