Answer: Functionalist theory is a theory that looks at the society as a form of system with interrelated parts. It explains that for a society to be functional, both human and societies must perform its functional prerequisites for the society to survive. Examples are family, government, children, etc.

Explanation:

Functionalist theory sees the society in a form of complex system in which all areas are striving towards promotion of solidarity and a form of stability in the society. This theory sees the society through the form of macro-level orientation and put more focus on social structures that put the society in proper shape in a more broadly way.

It is a theory that makes us understand that there exist gender inequalities which create division of labor which simply means that a certain part of the population is responsible for doing certain labor work while the other is responsible for other forms of labor.

However, examples of a functionalist theory is the government who provides social amenities, the families who pay taxes back to government, the school who provide education to the children, the children who after growing up pay back taxes to the government.

Sauron [17]

Answer: An empirical generalization

Explanation:

An empirical generalization in research, is an inference made after observing the relationship between two or more variables under different conditions.

In a research, this is the step after hypothesis and observation. The first step here is a question about correlation of fear of crime and police presence in a community. By proving that there is no relationship between these two variables, the researcher can move on to theory building where he/she reconciles their discoveries and knowledge of related fields.
