The male cones are yellow, formed by numerous scales, with bags full of pollen, the female cones are greenish formed by scales in which there are uncovered eggs.

In their maturation, male cones or catkins release millions of pollen grains to the wind, which are transported by the wind and fall into the female cones, fertilizing the eggs. Fertilized, the female cone closes forming the pinecone, inside which are the pine nuts, the product of the fertilized eggs. At the end of a year or so, the pine cone opens and lets the pine nuts fall, which disperse in the wind until they fall in a suitable place for their germination.
