Which two (2) statements are correct examples of the “structure determines function” relationship among specialized cells in an

organism? a Leaf cells in plants contain chloroplasts to absorb sunlight. b Human nerve cells are small and square to easily fit through blood vessels. c Pancreas cells have long branch-like parts of their cell membrane to produce insulin. d Cells that line the small intestine have a flat and smooth surface to increase the absorption of nutrients. e Human sperm cells have a "tail" like structure called a flagellum that allows the cell to move.

Answer:

A and E are the correct.

Explanation:

Examples of the structures that determine function:

a) <u>Chloroplasts </u>only found in plant cells. They work to fix the CO2 in the presence of <u>light energy</u> (sunlight) and convert the reactants into <u>sugar molecules (carbohydrates</u>) that can be used by cells for metabolic functioning.

e) <u>Sperm</u> is the male reproductive cell. Motile sperm cells have a tail-like structure that typically <u>move via flagella</u> and requires a water medium in order to swim toward the egg <u>for fertilization</u>.

Other options are not correct because <u>they don't explain their function according to their structure</u>.

How are the Kissimmee River, Lake Okeechobee, and the Everglades related?
Taya2010 [7]
Between 1962 and 1971, the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) channeled the Kissimmee River and created a 30-foot deep, 300-foot wide, 56 mile long drainage canal (C-38). This project converted 44% of the floodplain to pasture, draining approximately 31,000 acres of wetlands. Before channelization, the River was a haven for wildlife, including at least 39 species of fish and 38 species of water birds.

Kissimmee River Restoration began in 1992 and has been the most successful ecosystem restoration initiative to date. By re-channelizing the River to replicate its natural paths, birds and other wildlife responded more quickly than anticipated and demonstrated the resiliency of nature. This success has been used all over the world to justify the value of ecosystem restoration. When Kissimmee River Restoration is completed in 2015, more than 40 square miles of the River-floodplain ecosystem will be restored, including almost 20,000 acres of wetlands and 44 miles of historic river channel.

Do you think the discoveries your class made would help predict and explain patterns of change in the size of populations for ot
beks73 [17]

Yes they would help predict and explain patterns of change in the size of populations for other large consumers.

<h3>What is Population?</h3>

This is defined as the total number of organisms in an area over a given period of time.

The population of producers and primary consumers help predict that of larger consumers. The higher their population, the lesser the population of large consumers that live in the Serengeti ecosystem.
