The proposal of Samuel Gompers under the American Federation of Labor is UNIONISM. Gompers repudiated socialism and he advocates a pragmatic unionism. He proposed the an agreement containing clauses stipulating union members (closed shop) and that employee should be required to pay the employer advocating the open shop.
