Along the coast (on both sides of the country) it is hot and humid, unbearably so in the summer. Inland communities at higher elevations such as Guadalajara (5200 ft above sea level) and in particular close-by Lake Chapala, are much dryer and more temperate.

What did the Sumner-Brooks Affair of 1856 reveal about American politics at that time?
marishachu [46]

Answer:

The Caning of Charles Sumner, or the Brooks–Sumner Affair, occurred on May 22, 1856, in the United States Senate chamber, when Representative Preston Brooks, a pro-slavery Democrat from South Carolina, used a walking cane to attack Senator Charles Sumner, an abolitionist Republican from Massachusetts, in retaliation for a speech given by Sumner two days earlier in which he fiercely criticized slaveholders, including a relative of Brooks. The beating nearly killed Sumner and it contributed significantly to the country's polarization over the issue of slavery. It has been considered symbolic of the "breakdown of reasoned discourse"[1] and the use of violence that eventually led to the Civil War.

why would the south be opposed to abraham lincoln becoming president of the united states? what were lincoln's views on slavery?
Elan Coil [88]

Answer:

Because slavery was what they're economy depended on.

Explanation:

During Lincoln's campaigns (and in the beginning of his presidency), Lincoln believed that slavery was unacceptable(it also went against his morals) and that it shouldn't expand. Many people and officials in the South took this as a threat and believed that he would turn against them and abolish slavery. If this happened the south's economy would go down.
