The reason performance decreased when landmarks were removed that has been veiwed longer is because though the landmarks does not aid im maze navigation the participants must have solicited the help of the landmarks for other things like remembering they had passed this particular location before or at a junction in the maze since the study started so removing it will throw them into confusion especially if the maze looks the same all round

Good leader on the other hand, can change/shape the people character. If good leaders embodied positive attitude and disciplines, people who see it will feel more inclined to set them as an example and make effort to possess those same characteristics.
